Right now there seems to be a lot of negativity in the air. Whether it is the Presidential race or economic storm clouds on the horizon, you really don't hear many positive things in the news about the economy or the world. The sky is falling! Business owners be warned! Don't let too much "stinkin thinkin" enter your business world, personal life, or head. As a business owner, two of your greatest assets that must be guarded at all costs are your confidence and effective mindset. Even if things all around you seem out of control, you are still in control of your biggest weapon to fight back -- your thoughts.
Whether you realize it or not, as a business owner you are constantly defining and designing your business and life. To a very large degree, you are the creator of your circumstances - both good and bad. Whether you consciously recognize it our not, you have that much power. Not only do you become what you think about, but you achieve what you think about.
This is a critical secret to your success on most, not all, business and personal matters – what you think about on a regular basis and act on, good or bad, you attract into your life. Your mind is a powerful magnet that will attract whatever you are focusing on – positive or negative. You see, your thoughts generate your feelings and your feelings generate your actions. In turn, your actions ultimately generate your results. If you don't like your results in any area of your business or life, go back to the root cause and change your thoughts.
Everything starts in your head - your imagination is the raw material for the creation process and improvement process. Whatever you think about and act on eventually comes about. Whatever you focus on expands. Wherever you apply your energy, that part of your business and life enlarges. Quite simply, what you focus on with energy, emotion and massive action eventually materializes in your life - you attract and create your results. What are you focusing on?
Be careful to focus on what you want, not on what you don't want. Your mind will attract whatever you give your attention to ... good, bad or neutral. For example, if you keep thinking about and dwelling on only bad outcomes (sluggish sales, lost customers, slowing economy, etc.), you will attract more of those outcomes -- self-fulfilling prophecy. Again, you bring about whatever you think about. Your mind is like a powerful magnet and it does not care what it attracts for you, only that it attracts your most dominant thoughts. What are your dominant thoughts?
Since you create your world, choose very carefully what you think about on a daily basis. I am not asking you to be blindly optimistic, but neither be perennially pessimistic. Control and balance your dominant thoughts. For example, take the time to think about your goals and dreams. Think more about solutions, less about problems. Think about what is working, not just what is broken. Think about how to increase sales, not just cut costs. Think about your blessings, not just your frustrations. Think about your opportunities, not just your challenges. Think about a better professional and personal life. Think about greater success and personal fulfillment. Then, be sure to take massive action to make what you think about come about.
Today is the seventh anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on America. Let us never forget that horrific day, never forget the heroes that responded, never let down our guard, and never stop trying to make some good come from so much bad.
