Can you handle the truth? Here it comes -- your business is where it is and what it is because of YOU. Good, bad and ugly, you are responsible for the business -- all of it. Please own up to that. The only way your business and life will improve is if YOU improve as an owner and leader -- your thinking, mindset, assumptions, habits, strategies, etc. Please put your ego on hold and face reality. This is not about being right or wrong -- it's about getting more effective and more out of your business and life. Once you acknowledge and accept reality (the truth about what is working and what is broken in your business & life), you are then standing on solid ground, not quicksand. You can build and grow on solid ground; you can only continue to sink and drown in quicksand.
Some of the greatest enemies of entrepreneurs are BUSYNESS and DENIAL. Running too fast to think and plan is business suicide. Similarly, denying the truth prevents you from making real progress since you can't improve upon your situation based upon "comforting stories" you keep telling yourself. Take responsibility and take a strategic time out. A competent business coach will get you to slow down, leave the chaos and complexity of your work environment, face the reality of your situation, and help you do some real thinking, planning and writing down of the critical changes YOU want to see. In the end, you will have a customized game plan you created.
A business coach will provide you the structure, discipline and process for YOU to go to work "on" your business, "on" yourself, and "on" your life. While guiding you through an on-going focusing and accountability process, the coach does not make the decisions for you. Better than that, they ask the right questions so you come up with the right answers for you. After all, you know your business, industry and life better than anyone else -- why would you ever give that power away to a consultant, for example? Only you can decide how your "better future" will look. A coach will help you clarify your direction, work with you to develop a plan you want, and then provide accountability so you can make adjustments and stay on track.
