Odds are you frequently feel overworked, overwhelmed and like a prisoner to your business. While your business appears successful externally, you are a wreck internally with stress, headaches and worries about keeping it all together. At times, you even feel alone, isolated and maybe a bit of a fraud. The business seems to run you and your life instead of you running the business. You are wearing multiple hats, juggling multiple balls, and constantly fighting fires. Revenues have flattened out yet employee hassles have expanded. Your dream is taking on the dimensions of a nightmare. What went off course? Is something wrong with you?
First off, YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Most, if not all, owners struggle with these issues. How do I know? I have been advising and coaching business owners since 1992. In 2003, my vision was to help owners throughout North American so we launched The Growth Coach. As a result, we have been coaching thousands of small business owners, franchisees, self-employed professionals, top-gun sales and financial services professionals, and managers. Therefore, I can say with certainty that you are not alone, not the exception.
Sadly, overly busy and frustrated owners are the rule. Because of their thinking and actions, owners create their own imprisonment and miseries -- no one else. That's not surprising. Managing an effective business and life was not taught in school. Generally, our knowledge, mindsets, skills and habits can get us only so far. In fact, some of our assumptions, blind spots, bouts with denial and habits truly hold us and the business back.
Done right, business ownership should be about having fun, freedom, fulfillment and making significant money. In time, we will discuss how to get on that strategic path. For now, know that you are not alone, different or strange. Welcome to the club -- "The Business Owner Blues".
